Daddy Lumba’s widow, Akosua Serwaa, files fresh appeal documents in the ongoing legal battle with Odo Broni

The legal battle surrounding the estate and marital status of late highlife legend Daddy Lumba has taken a new turn, as his widow, Akosua Serwaa, has filed fresh appeal documents challenging a High Court ruling that recognized both her and Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, as lawful surviving spouses of the music icon.

The dispute began after Daddy Lumba’s passing, with Akosua Serwaa seeking a declaration from the Kumasi High Court that she was the musician’s sole lawful wife, citing an alleged civil marriage contracted in Germany. However, the court ruled that she failed to sufficiently prove the existence of a valid civil marriage and instead recognized both women as customary wives of the late musician.

Unhappy with the verdict, Akosua Serwaa has now escalated the matter to the Court of Appeal, arguing that the trial court erred in its assessment of key evidence, including documents she presented to support her marriage claim. Her legal team is seeking to overturn the ruling and secure a declaration recognizing her as Daddy Lumba’s only lawful surviving spouse.
